Nieciecza[ɲɛˈt͡ɕɛt͡ʂa]is avillagein the administrative district ofGmina Żabno,withinTarnów County,Lesser Poland Voivodeship,in southern Poland.[1]It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) north-west ofŻabno,17 km (11 mi) north-west ofTarnów,and 66 km (41 mi) east of the regional capitalKraków.It is situated on the right bank of theDunajecRiver,[2]atributaryof theVistula.

History

According to medieval Polish chroniclerJan Długosz,in the 15th century, the village was owned bycastellanJan Rabsztyński ofTopór coat of arms.[2]In the late 19th century, the village had a population of 541.[2]Avolunteer fire departmentwas established in 1903.[3]In 1915, a theater and choir ensemble was founded in Nieciecza.[4]It participated in patriotic, anniversary, church, and occasional events in various places in the region, and in choir competitions.[4]The localfootballclub, now known asBruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza,was founded in 1922.[5]

During the Germaninvasion of Poland,which startedWorld War II,a battle was fought in Nieciecza on 8 September 1939. 13 Polish soldiers of the12th Infantry Regimentwere killed in the battle.[6]There is a monument dedicated to the Polish defenders in the village.[6]During theGerman occupation,the occupiers used the local football pitch as a military training ground.[5]The local choir limited its activity.[4]In 1945, the occupation ended and the village was restored to Poland.

The village is the home ofBruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza,a professionalfootballclub. The club was founded in 1922. In May 2015, after securing the second place in theI liga,the club reached theEkstraklasafor the first time in its history. With Nieciecza's population of 750, it is the club from the smallest village in history to qualify to a top-level football league in Europe and the only club from a village to qualify to the Polish top football league.

There is aCatholicparish church of Our Lady Queen of Poland in Nieciecza.
