Nigel Seton Avery(born 31 August 1967 inAuckland,New Zealand) is a New Zealand formerweightlifter.

Sporting career[edit]

At the1998 Commonwealth GamesinKuala Lumpur,he won a bronze medal in the 105+ kgsnatchand the 105+ kg combined total.

He went to the2002 Commonwealth GamesinManchesterwhere he 2 gold medals in the 105+ kgclean and jerkand 105+ kg combined total, and gained a silver medal in the 105+ kgsnatch.He was the Closing Ceremony flag bearer for New Zealand.

He competed at the2000 Olympic GamesinSydneyplacing 17th in the 105+ kg men.

From 1991 to 1996, he was a member of the New Zealandbobsleighteam.[1]

Avery will be thechef de missionfor theNew Zealand Olympic teamat the2024 Summer Olympicsin Paris.[2]

Personal life[edit]

Avery is the father to three daughters. He is married to former athlete Shelley Avery.

He has appeared on theTV OneprogrammeDownsize Me!to show the effect of a high-fat diet on a very fit person.[3]
