Nora Fingscheidt(/ˈfɪŋʃaɪt/FING-shyte[1]) is a German director and screenwriter. She has been a participant of theMax Ophüls Preis film festival since 2011 for her short films, winning the prize in 2017 forWithout This World(Ohne diese Welt).[2]
She became widely known for her critically acclaimed filmSystem Crasher,which premiered at the69th Berlin International Film Festivalin 2019 and for which she won theAlfred Bauer Prizeas well as other prizes.[3]In 2020, her film also won eight awards at theGerman Film Awards,including for best picture, best screenplay and best director.[4]She directedThe UnforgivablefeaturingSandra Bullockbased on the 2009 seriesUnforgiven.[5]
Biography[edit]
Nora Fingscheidt attended schools in Braunschweig and Argentina. From 2008 to 2017, Fingscheidt studied scenic directing at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.[6]
Career[edit]
Her short filmSynkopewas invited to the Max Ophüls Prize competition, was nominated for the German Short Film Prize in 2011 and received an honorable mention at the Dresden Film Festival in 2012. Fingscheidt received further invitations for the Max Ophüls Prize for the short filmsZwischen den Zeilen(2011),Brüderlein(2013) andDie Lizenz(2016). She won the prize in 2017 for her documentaryWithout This World(Ohne diese Welt) chronicling the life of ArgentineMennoniteswhich was also her graduation film.[6]
In 2019, Fingscheidt was invited to the69th Berlinalecompetition for her filmSystem Crasher,where she was honored with theAlfred Bauer Prizeand the Reader's Jury Prize of theBerliner Morgenpost.System Crasherwas selected by Germany as theirsubmissionforBest International Feature Filmat the2020 Academy Awards,but was not shortlisted.[6]

Nora Fingscheidt lives with her family inHamburg.She has a son.[6]
