Nukapuis one of the islands of the nation ofSolomon Islands.It is in theReef Islandsgroup inTemotu Province;the easternmost province of the Solomons.[1][2][3]The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 15 metres.[4]
The island contains a memorial toBishop John Pattesonwho was murdered on Nukapu in 1871.
Population[edit]
As of 2009, the local population was 100 people. The language spoken on Nukapu isPileni,a member of thePolynesianlanguage family. Pileni is also spoken on the islands ofPileni,Nupani,Nifiloli,AuaandMatema Islandof theReef Islands,as well as in theTaumakoIslands (also known as theDuff Islands), some 200 miles to the east. Speakers are thought to be descendants of people fromTuvalu.
