Olga Jegunova(born 25 May 1984)[1]is aLatvianclassical pianist,born inŠiauliai,Lithuania(thenLithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic), and now living inLondon.

Career

After studying music atJāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music,concluding with abachelor's degree,she obtained hermaster's degreeat theHochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.This was followed by studying at theRoyal College of Music(Artist Diploma course as an RCM scholar underDmitri Alexeev) and then at theRoyal Northern College of Musicwhere her piano teacher wasNorma Fisher.In 2013 she studied at the Samling Academy in the UK.[2]

Jegunova has taken part in numerous master classes with eminent pianists such asAndrás Schiffat thePrussian Cove International Musicians Seminar,an annual event,[3]Ferenc Rados,Eliso Virsaladze,Mikhail Voskresensky,Benjamin ZanderandLazar Berman.As a soloist she has worked with conductors such asSaulius Sondeckis,Alexander Soddy,Andres MustonenandMuhai Tangand appeared with ensembles and orchestras such as the Sinfonia Concertante, founded by musicians of theDeutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen,theLithuanian Chamber Orchestra,theZurich Chamber Orchestra,thePasdeloup Orchestraand theManchester Camerata.

In 2013, Jegunova gave a recital at theEdinburgh International Festival[4][5]which was met with enthusiastic critical acclaim,[6]played the same year in the "Noureev & Friends" concert performance in thePalais des congrèsinParis,[7]and in 2015 for the LatvianEUPresidency's annualBurns supperinBrussels.[8]

In 2014 she played before PrincessBeatrix of the Netherlands,[9]in 2015 at the Latvian Day Celebration Concert in theWestminster Cathedral Hallin the presence of the Latvianambassador,Andris Teikmanis,and was chosen to take part in the Baltic Stars Ensemble,[10]a concert organised by theCity Music Societyof London in the St Lawrence Jewry Church.

On 2 December 2015 Jegunova launched a charity called OlgaRhythm which aims to support talented music students of any age and ability.[11]

Collaborations

Jegunova has worked with Alina García-Lapuerta and re-created, with the soprano Kirstin Sharpin, the "Lost Song" originally sung byMaria de las Mercedes Santa Cruz y Montalvo.[12]She has also worked with the story teller Jan Blake on thePeter and the Wolfperformance for children.[13]

Jegunova was invited to work as a presenter at the 2015International Tchaikovsky Competitionin Moscow, where she interviewedVadim Repin,violinist and member of the jury,[14]andMaxim Vengerov.She also broadcast live interviews with other well-known musicians at this competition.[15]

Since 2009, Jegunova has worked as a performer forLive Music Now,[16]a charity providing live music in the concert hall as well as in the welfare, educational, justice and health sectors. She teaches piano to students ofQueen Mary University of London.[17]

Awards

Jegunova won the Concours Musical de France Ginette Gaubert in Paris and in 2008 the Steinway-Förderpreis in Hamburg.[18]In 2016 she was accepted bySteinway & Sonsas aSteinway Artist.[19]She has been a prize-winner at the Concours International de Piano Maryse Cheilan in France, at the Stasys Vainiūnas competition inVilniusand at the competition of the foundation Animato inZurich,and was a semi-finalist at the prestigiousConcours Géza Andain Zurich.[20]
