Ollie Cahill(born 29 September 1975 inClonmel) is an Irish former professionalfootballer,primarily a leftwinger.[1]Besides the Republic of Ireland, he played in England.[2][3]
Cahill had a youth career with Old Bridge where he won a Munster Youth Cup thanks to a 5–0 over Turnpike Rovers in 1993. The following year he was instrumental in Clonmel Town winning the FAI Junior Cup with a 5–1 over New Ross Celtic. He then moved to English outfitNorthampton Town.He later returned to Ireland for spells withCork City,Shelbourne,Drogheda United,Shamrock Rovers,Sporting FingalandBohemians.
Career
[edit]Cahill began his career with Clonmel Town, one of Ireland's top junior football clubs winning anFAI Junior Cupwinners medal with them in 1994. He then spent two seasons at Northampton before returning home in the summer of 1996. Despite playing a friendly forWaterford Unitedagainst Southampton he signed forCork City.After six seasons at Cork he moved toShelbournein the summer of 2002. While he was with Shelbourne he won theLeague of Irelandchampionship in 2003, 2004 and 2006. Cahill was signed by Drogheda United on 23 December 2006. With Drogheda, Cahill won his fourth Premier Division title in five seasons and aSetanta Sports Cupwinners medal in 2007.
Cahill signed for Shamrock Rovers on 16 January 2009 along withStephen Bradleyin what wasMichael O'Neill's first signings. He departedShamrock Roversin July 2010 after making 53 appearances for the club.[1]and soon signed forSporting Fingal.
When Sporting went out of business in February 2011, Ollie moved toDalymount Parkwhere he joinedBohemians,making his competitive debut againstPortadownin theSetanta Sports Cup.[2]
European competition
[edit]Cahill made 41 appearances in European competition scoring twice. He scored forShelbourneagainstOlimpija Ljubljanain August 2003[3]and again forDrogheda UnitedagainstLevadia Tallinnon 16 July 2008 in aUEFA Champions Leaguequalifier[4].
Retirement
[edit]Cahill retired from the game at the end of the 2011 season.
