Osztopán(Croatian:Stupan) is a village inSomogycounty,Hungary.
Etymology
[edit]The name comes from theSlavicStupan[2][3]derived from theProto-Slavicstemstǫp-with several meanings and possible etymologies (i.e.stǫpa/stupa:trapping pit,[2]see also the etymology ofStupava).
History
[edit]According toLászló Szitathe settlement was completely Hungarian in the 18th century.[4]
Highway bridge bombed by 97th BG on 30 June 1944 when primary target Blechammer oil refinery was overcast.
Culture
[edit]The Hungarian folk songOsztopáni malomárokwas collected in Osztopán in 1949 byFerenc Gönczi.
