Ou Xuanyi(Chinese:Âu huyên ngật;pinyin:Ōu Xǔanyì;born 23 January 1994) is a Chinesebadmintonplayer.[2]

Career summary

Ou made his debut in an international tournament by competing at the2013 China Masters.[3]In 2017, he clinched his first international title by winning the mixed doubles title at theIndonesia International Seriestournament partnered withLiu Lin.[4]

Ou started the 2018 season by competing at theLingshui China Masters,and finished as the semi-finalist in the mixed doubles event partnered withChen Lu.[5]He then won the men's doubles title at theU.S. Openteamed up withRen Xiangyu,and also the runner-up at theSingapore Open.Together withFeng Xueying,he won the mixed doubles title at theSyed Modi International,which is a Super 300 BWF tournament.[6]

From 2022, Ou started a new partnership with the reigning Olympic silver medalistLiu Yuchen.In theIndonesia Open,the duo beat Korea'sChoi Sol-gyuandKim Won-hoto become the first men’s doubles pair from the reserves’ list to win a Super 1000 title.[7]They qualified to compete at theWorld Tour Finalsand emerged victorious after beatingMohammad AhsanandHendra Setiawanin the final.[8]As a result he broke into the top ten for the first time in his career.[9]

In 2023, Ou and Liu helped the national team reach thefinalof theSudirman Cup.Facingformer world no.1pairTakuro HokiandYugo Kobayashiin the semi-finals while Japan was leading the tie 2–1, Ou and Liu saved four match points being 16–20 down and converting their first to keep China alive in the tie. They eventually got into the final. Ou said after the match, "During the third game after the interval, I rushed a bit and all my shots went long. When we were match point down, I was calm as we were sure to lose the game. Liu Yu Chen just told me to play my game." Compatriot and world no.1Jia Yifansaid after she won the deciding rubber, "We wouldn’t be here if not for the men’s doubles, they did a great job."[10]Ultimately, the Chinese national team went on to win the 2023 Sudirman Cup.[11]

Ou competed in themen's doublesevent at the2024 Summer Olympicswith Liu but were eliminated in the group stage.[12]On 20 August 2024, Ou retired from international badminton.[13]

The BWF World Tour, which was announced on 19 March 2017 and implemented in 2018,[14]is a series of elite badminton tournaments, sanctioned byBadminton World Federation(BWF). The BWF World Tour is divided into six levels, namely World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, Super 300, and the BWF Tour Super 100.[15]
