Icelandsovereignisland nationlocated in theNorth Atlantic Oceanbetweencontinental EuropeandGreenland.[1]It is considered part ofNorthern Europe.It is the least populous of theNordic countries,having a population of about 329,000 (January 1, 2015).[2]Iceland isvolcanicallyandgeologically activeon a large scale; this defines the landscape in various ways. The interior mainly consists of aplateaucharacterized bysand fields,mountainsandglaciers,while many bigglacial riversflow to the sea through the lowlands. Warmed by theGulf Stream,Iceland has atemperate climaterelative to itslatitudeand provides a habitable environment and nature.
