Protocadherin-1is aproteinthat in humans is encoded by thePCDH1gene.[5][6]
This gene belongs to theprotocadherinsubfamily within thecadherinsuperfamily. The encoded protein is amembrane proteinfound at cell-cell boundaries. It is involved inneural celladhesion, suggesting a possible role in neuronal development. The protein includes an extracellular region, containing 7 cadherin-like domains, a transmembrane region and aC-terminalcytoplasmic region. Cells expressing the protein showed cell aggregation activity.Alternative splicingoccurs in this gene.[6]
