PS Iona (1855)
Appearance
TheIonawas Scottish-builtpaddle steamer,purchased byConfederateagents for use as ablockade runnerduring theAmerican Civil War.Following a collision withChanticleershe sunk in theUpper ClydenearFort Matildain October 1862. The wreck, which lies around 27 m belowchart datum,is now designated as aHistoric Marine Protected AreabyHistoric Environment Scotland.[2]
