Pabwehshi(meaning "Pab [Formation] beast [" wehshi "inUrdu] ") is anextinctgenusofmesoeucrocodylian. It isbased onGSP-UM 2000, a partial snout and corresponding lower jaw elements, with another snout assigned to it. These specimens were found inMaastrichtian-ageUpper Cretaceousrocks of theVitakriandPab FormationsinBalochistan,Pakistan, and represent the first diagnostic crocodyliformfossilsfrom Cretaceous rocks ofSouth Asia.Pabwehshihad serrated interlocking teeth in its snout that formed a "zig-zag" cutting edge.Pabwehshiwas named in 2001 byJeffrey A. Wilsonand colleagues. Thetype speciesisP. pakistanensis,in reference to the nation where it was found.[1]It was traditionally classified as abaurusuchidclosely related toCynodontosuchusandBaurusuchus.[1][2][3][4][5][6]Larsson and Sues (2007) found close affinity betweenPabwehshiand thePeirosauridaewithinSebecia.[7]Montefeltroet al.Pabwehshihas a sagittal torus on its maxillary palatal shelves – a character that is absent in baurusuchids – but they did not includePabwehshiin their phylogenetic analysis.[8]
