Pamela Ashley Brown(born November 29, 1983) is an American television reporter and newscaster. She is currentlyCNN'schief investigative correspondent. She formerly worked forABCWashington, D.C.,affiliateWJLA-TV,and she is also fill-in and substitute anchor for CNN'sThe Situation Room with Wolf BlitzerandErin Burnett OutFront.[1][2][3]Brown occasionally provided the lead-in to "Politico's Video Playback "—a daily recap of the previous night's U.S.late-night talk shows.

Biography

Brown was born inLexington,Kentucky,the daughter of businessman and formerGovernor of KentuckyJohn Y. Brown Jr.and formerMiss Americaand businesswomanPhyllis George(1949–2020). George took maternity leave from her duties onCBS'NFLpregame show,The NFL Today,to give birth to Pamela. Brown is the granddaughter of politicianJohn Y. Brown Sr.and the half-sister of formerKentucky Secretary of StateJohn Y. Brown, III.Her parents divorced in 1996 after 17 years of marriage, when Brown was 13.[4]

Brown graduated fromHenry Clay High Schoolin Lexington and theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill[4]with a degree in broadcast journalism. While at the University of North Carolina, Brown was a reporter on the university'sCarolina Week.After college, she worked for ABC-affiliateWJLA-TVin Washington.[4][1]Brown is currently pursuing a Master of Studies in Law (MSL) degree fromGeorge Washington University Law School.[5]

In January 2021, CNN announced that Brown would move to senior Washington correspondent and would host three hours ofCNN Newsroomon weekends.[6]

On August 14, 2023, CNN announced in a major programming overhaul that Brown would helm a new weekday show from 3–4 p.m. ET entitledThe Bulletin with Pamela Brown.[7]In February 2024, it was announced thatThe Bulletinwould instead air at 11 a.m. ET, and premiere once Brown returns from maternity leave.[8]In September 2024, the show launched, albeit withoutThe Bulletintitling, asCNN Newsroom with Pamela Brown.[9]

Personal life

Brown has an older brother, Lincoln (born 1980) and three half-siblings from her father's prior marriage.[4]Brown was named after her aunt Pamela Brown,[1]who died in 1970 at the age of 28 together with her husband Rod Anderson and balloonist Malcolm Brighton, in an ill-fated attempt to cross theAtlantic Oceanin aRozière balloon,Free Life.[10]

Brown married Adam Wright on June 5, 2017.[11]In June 2018, their son was born,[12]followed by a daughter in February 2020.[13]
