Paul 'Patch' Atcheson(born 17 May 1973) is a formerWalesinternationalrugby leaguefootballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played at representative level forGreat BritainandWales,and at club level for theWidnes Vikings(two spells),Wigan,[2]Oldham BearsandSt Helens,as afullback.[1][3]

Wigan[edit]

After the1993–94 Rugby Football League seasonAtcheson travelled with defending championsWiganto Brisbane, playing from the interchange bench in their1994 World Club Challengevictory over Australian premiers, theBrisbane Broncos.Atcheson made one appearance for Great Britain Under-21s in 1993,[4]and woncapsforWales national rugby league teamwhile at Wigan in 1995 against England, France, and in the1995 Rugby League World Cupagainst Western Samoa. Paul Atcheson appeared as asubstitute(replacingcentreVa'aiga Tuigamala) inWigan's 40–10 victory overWarringtonin the1994–95 Regal TrophyFinal during the1994–95 seasonatAlfred McAlpine Stadium,Huddersfieldon Saturday 28 January 1995.[5]

Oldham[edit]

While at Oldham in 1996 he played for Wales against France, and England. In the 1997 post season, Atcheson was selected to play forGreat Britain national rugby league teamin all three matches of theSuper League Test seriesagainstAustralia.He also signed with St Helens.

St Helens[edit]

While at St. Helens in 1998 Atcheson played for Wales against England. Atcheson played forSt. Helensatfullbackin their1999 Super League Grand Finalvictory overBradford Bulls.Having won the 1999 ChampionshipSt. Helenscontested in the2000 World Club ChallengeagainstNational Rugby LeaguePremiers theMelbourne Storm,with Atcheson playing fullback in the loss.

Widnes[edit]

Atcheson played for Wales while at Widnes in 2000 against South Africa, in the2000 Rugby League World Cupagainst Cook Islands, Lebanon, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Australia, in 2001 against England, in 2002 against New Zealand, and in 2003 against Russia, and Australia.[1]
