Paulina Vega Dieppa(Spanish pronunciation:[pawˈlinaˈβeɣa];born January 15, 1993) is a Colombian beauty pageant titleholder who wonMiss Universe 2014,she previously wonMiss Colombia 2013.Vega was the secondMiss Universefrom Colombia.

Early life

Paulina Vega Dieppa was born inBarranquilla,Atlántico,Colombia to Laura Dieppa and cardiologist Rodolfo Vega Llama.[2]Ms. Vega is of French and Spanish descent. She is the granddaughter of ColombiantenorGastón Vega andMiss Atlántico 1953Elvira Castillo.[3][4]Vega completed her elementary and high school education betweenColegio Karl C. Parrish[5]and theGerman School of Barranquilla[6]during her years living in theCaribbean city,after moving to the capital where she finished her last years atDeutsche Schule Bogotá.She also studied Business Administration at thePontifical Xavierian University.[7]

Vega entered and wonMiss Colombia 2013on November 11, 2013, held inCartagena,representing theAtlántico Department.She gained the right to represent her country atMiss Universe 2014.She was crowned by the outgoing titleholderLucia Aldana.Vega became the 11th Miss Atlantico to win the title since the pageant began in 1934, the first Miss Atlantico to win Miss Universe, and the second Colombian to winMiss UniverseafterLuz Marina Zuluagain1958.[8]

Miss Universe 2014

Vega entered and won Miss Universe 2014 on January 25, 2015, inDoral, Florida,against 87 contestants. She was crowned by her predecessor,Gabriela Islerfrom Venezuela. She was the second Colombian in 56 years to win Miss Universe, after Miss Universe 1958Luz Marina Zuluaga.Vega wore the pageant's new crown, designed by Diamonds International Corporation, a Czech-based jeweler officially responsible for Miss Universe jewelry. Her prize package included money, a year contract promoting Miss Universe, world travel, a rent-free luxury apartment in New York City, a gift bag with designer shoes, dresses, and beauty products, a US$100,000stipendfor a two-year course at theNew York Film Academy,and free access to famous fashion houses and beauty parlors. Vega intended to spend her year traveling the world to lecture on humanitarian issues and to promote education regardsHIV/AIDS.[9]
