Pedro Bial(born March 29, 1958) is a Brazilianproducer,director,writer,journalistand aTV presenter.He is best known for hosting thevariety showFantástico,and thereality showBig Brother Brasil(the Brazilian version ofBig Brother).[2]

Career[edit]

Bial graduated injournalismfromPUC-RJ.His career, as a reporter, began atRede Globoin 1981. In 1988, he started to work forJornal HojeandGlobo Repórter.He also hosted Rede Globo's live broadcast ofRock in Rio II.Bial was international correspondent for Globo network from 1988 to 1996.[3]He replacedRenato Machadoon August 13, 1988.

In 1996, he started to hostFantástico.As of 2014, he's been hosting theBig Brother Brasilfor 14 seasons.[3]

In 2003 he translated and interpretedWear SunscreenbyMary Schmich,which was a great success.[4]

On July 5, 2012, he started to present a brand new show calledNa Moral.[5]

In 2017, Bial left Big Brother Brazil, after 17 editions. In the same year, he takes charge of a talk show calledConversa com Bial.

He is currently aTrusteeand columnist of theInstituto Millenium.[6]

Writing and filmmaking[edit]

Bial is also an accomplished writer andfilmmaker.He has published a couple ofbooks,includingRoberto Marinho(the authorizedbiographyofRoberto Marinho,founder ofRede Globo) Bial directed thedocumentaryOutras Histórias(2000)[7]and thefeature filmJorge Mautner – O Filho do Holocausto(2012).[8][9]

Personal life[edit]

Bial comes from a family with diverse professional backgrounds. His father, Pedro Hans Bial, was aphysician,and his mother, Cecília Bial, was ateacher.His brother, Alberto Bial, is abasketball coach,and his sister, Irene Bial, is apsychotherapist.[8]

He has been married multiple times. His first marriage was to journalist Renée Castelo Branco, with whom he had a daughter named Ana. He later marriedactressFernanda Torresfrom 1982 to 1985. Bial then married actressGiulia Gambetween 1998 and 1999. In 2017, Bial married his current wife, Maria Prata, a Brazilian journalist. The couple has two children together, Laura and Dora.[8][10]
