Peter Claffey(born 28 July 1996) is an Irish actor and formerrugby unionplayer.
Early life[edit]
Claffey is fromPortumna,inCounty Galway,he attendedGarbally Collegeand played rugby union forGalwegians RFC.[2][3]
Rugby union[edit]
Claffey playedrugby unionfor Ballinasloe RFC in theConnacht Senior League.Alock forward,he joined theConnacht Rugbyacademy in 2015. He played forIreland national under-20 rugby union teamin the2016 Six Nations Under 20s Championship.He signed a professional contract with Connacht Rugby in 2018.[4][5]In 2019, he signed forTerenure College.[6]
Acting[edit]
Claffey trained in acting trained at theBow Street AcademyinDublin.He made his professional stage debut in 2022 playing Iggy inTom Murphy’sA Whistle in the Darkat theAbbey Theatrein Dublin.[7]
His onscreen career began in 2022 with television appearances on the showsHarry WildandApple TVdark comedyBad Sisters.[8]That year, he played Cormac inBBC Threecomedy seriesWreck,for which he filmed a second series in 2023.[9]
Claffey appears in the third series ofVikings: Valhallaand theCillian Murphyled film-adaptation ofSmall Things Like These.[10][11]
In April 2024, Claffey was cast in theGame of Thronesprequel series in the lead role of the legendary Ser Duncan the Tall—aka Dunk, inA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight,written byGeorge R. R. Martinand Ira Parker. It is set a century before the events ofGame of Thrones,but 72 years after the start ofHouse of the Dragon.[12][13]
