Peter Penz(born 5 April 1984 inHall in Tirol)[1]is an Austrian formerlugerwho competed between 2003 and 2018. He and doubles partnerGeorg Fischlertook two medals at the2018 Winter OlympicsinPyongchang:a silver in thedoubles competitionand a bronze in theteam relay.They were also gold medallists in the doubles at the2012 European Luge ChampionshipsinParamonovo.In addition the pair took six medals at theFIL World Luge Championships:four in the doubles and two in mixed team competitions.[2]

He won two medals in the mixed team event at theFIL World Luge Championshipswith a silver in2009and a bronze in2007.He also finished fifth in the men's doubles event at the2008 championshipsinOberhof, Germany.Penz also finished sixth in the men's doubles event at the2008 FIL European Luge ChampionshipsinCesana,Italy.

In August 2018 Penz and Fischler announced their retirement from competition, in part due to Penz suffering from back pain. He confirmed that he would remain in the sport as a coach with theAustrian Luge Federation.[3]The pair made their last competitive appearance at the2018–19 Luge World Cup's opening round atIglsin November 2018.[4]
