Phillip Kayode Moses(born 5 June 1994), better known asPheelz,is a Nigerianrecord producer,[1]singer, songwriter, and graphic designer.[2]Pheelz is credited to have produced all but one song on Olamide'sBaddest Guy Ever Livethalbum.[3]In 2022, he had a hit with his song "Finesse",a collaboration withBnxn(formerly known as Buju).[4]
Early life
[edit]Pheelz is a native ofOgun State,but he was born and raised inOjo,a local government area inLagos State.He started music as a 10-year-old singer in church.[5]While in high school in Ajangbandi Afromedia, Pheelz attended Ideal Comprehensive High School and later he worked under I.D Cabassa at Coded Tunes, the record label where he met Olamide. In 2011, he featured vocals in a song off Olamide'sRapsodialbum titled "I'm Going In".
Career

[edit]His breakthrough as a record producer came in 2012, when he produced the chart-topping singles by Olamide titled "First of All" and "Fucking with the Devil" off hisYBNLalbum.[5]In 2013, Pheelz was listed inNotJustOk's "Top 10 Hottest Producers in Nigeria".[6]He produced all but one song on Olamide'sBaddest Guy Ever Livethalbum, a move which made him gain grounds in the Nigerian music industry and won him a nomination atThe Headies 2013.[7]In 2014, he was also nominated in the Producer of the Year category at the2014 editionof The Headies and at the2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.[8]Pheelz has gone on to produce and be credited in popular songs and albums includingThe ChairmanbyM.I,Ghetto UniversitybyRuntownandSeyi or ShaybySeyi Shay.In 2014, Pheelz collaborated withCOPILOT Music and Soundon a cover ofCarlinhos Brown's "Maria Caipirnha (Samba da Bahia)". The arrangement represented the musical instrumentation and styles of Nigeria forVisa's "Samba of the World", a digital campaign for the2014 FIFA World Cup.Pheelz was nominated and won[9][10]the "Producer of the Year" category atThe Headies awards 2020edition.
He has worked with several artists and musicians, such asDavido,Usher,Olamide,Wizkid,Fireboy DML,TeniandTiwa Savage.[11]
2021–present:Hear Me OutEP
[edit]In 2021 he released his debut EPHear Me Out[12]throughEmpire Distribution.[13][14][15]
"One Life" was released as a single off the EP on 26 November 2020, with its lyric video following on 28 December 2020.[16]
Motolani Alake ofPulse Nigeriawrote that it "excels on quality songwriting and good productions".[17]Ikwuje Amos ofMp3bulletcalled Pheelz "very intentional on the EP".[18]
On 15 March 2022, he signed a record deal withWarnerUK,[19]shortly after his single "Finesse"became an international success, and earned him, his first career entry on theBillboardGlobal 200at number 131, theTurnTable Top 50at number 1,World Digital Song Salesat number 10,UK Afrobeats Singles Chartat number 1, and theUK Singles Chartat number 52.
