Philaeusis agenusofjumping spidersthat was first described byTamerlan Thorellin 1869.[2]Philaeus maoniuensiswas moved to genusYllenusin 2003.[1]

[edit]As of August 2019[update]it contains seven species with a wide distribution. Most species are from theMediterraneanandWest Africa,but single species are known fromGuatemalaand theGalapagos Islands:[1]
