Pisus

InGreek mythology,Pisus(Ancient Greek:Πῖσός or Πίσον means ‘meadows’), alsoPeisusorPeisos(Πεῖσος), may refer to two different characters:
- Pisus, aMessenianprince who later foundedPisainElis.He was the son of KingPerieresof Messenia[1]and possiblyGorgophone,daughter ofPerseus.In one version of the myth, Pisus’ parents were insteadAphareus,another Messenian king, andArene,and his brothers wereIdasandLynceus,[2]rivals of theDioscuri.He was the one of the first persons (the other two beingPelopsandHeracles) to have established the festival and the contest atOlympia.[3]Also, Pisus founded and institutedZeus’ worship on the area.[4]
- Pisus, king of theCeltsand son ofApollo.He was the reputed founder ofPisainEtruriaafter he had waged war with theSamnitesand received their widowed queen who succeeded to the government after the death of her husband.[5]
