Plaus(Italian pronunciation:[ˈplaus];German pronunciation:[plaʊ̯s]) is acomune(municipality) and a village inSouth Tyrolin northernItaly,located about 30 kilometres (19 mi) north-west of the city ofBolzano.
Geography[edit]
As of July 2023, the municipality had a population of 762 and an area of 187.0 square kilometres (72.2 sq mi).[3][4]
Plausis one of the three municipalities of South Tyrol whose name remained unchanged by the early 20th centuryrenaming programmewhich aimed at replacing mostly Germanplace nameswithItalianisedversions, the other two beingGaisandLana.[5]
Plaus borders the following municipalities:Algund,NaturnsandPartschins.

Coat-of-arms[edit]
The shield isargentafessgulesand threesableeagles.It is the arms of the Lord ofTarant,who lived in theTarantsbergCastle until 1291. The emblem was adopted in 1966.[6]
