Polydora(/ˌpɒlɪˈdɔːrə/;Ancient Greek:ΠολυδώρᾱinAtticandΠολυδώρηinIonic,means 'many-gifts' or 'the shapely'[1]) was the name of several characters inGreek mythology:
- Polydora, the 'handsome'Oceanid,one of the 3,000water-nymphdaughters of theTitansOceanusand his sister-spouseTethys.[1][2][3]
- Polydora, anymphand one of the 50Danaïdes,daughter of KingDanaus.She was the mother ofKing DryopsofOeta,by theriver-godsSpercheus[4]orPeneus.[5]
- Polydora, wife ofAphareus of Messeniaand thus, the possible mother of his children,Idas,LynceusandPeisus.[6]In some accounts, the consort of Aphareus was calledArene[7]orLaocoosa.[8]
- Polydora, daughter ofPeleusandAntigone,daughter of KingEurytionofPhthia.[9]She marriedBorus,son ofPerieres,who wooed her with large dowry, but regardless of this, Polydora became the mother ofMenesthiusbySpercheios.[10]
- Polydora, daughter ofPerieresand wife ofPeleus.In some accounts, she became the mother of Menesthius by Spercheus.[11]
- Polydora, daughter ofMeleagerandCleopatra.She was married toProtesilaus,and after his death she was so affected by grief that she took her own life.[12]
