Pomonais anunincorporated communityinWestmoreland County,in theNorthern NeckofVirginia.The area was likely named Pomona after the largest of theOrkney Islandsby St. John Shropshire, aScottishimmigrant, who purchased the land in 1736.[1]Another Scot, theReverend Archibald Campbell(who tutoredJohn MarshallandJames Monroeas boys at his parish school[2]) purchased the property in 1761, and a largeFederal stylehouse, also named Pomona, stands there today.[3]
