Raamah

Raamah(Hebrew:רַעְמָה,Raʿmh) is a name found in theTorah,meaning "lofty" or "exalted", and possibly "thunder".

The name is first mentioned as the fourth son ofCush,who is the son ofHam,who is the son ofNoahinGen.10:7, and later appears as a country that traded with thePhoeniciancity-state ofTyre,inEzekiel27:22. It has been connected withRhammanitaementioned byStraboin the southwest Arabian Peninsula, and with an Arabian city ofRegmahat the head of the Persian Gulf.[clarification needed]

This country ofRaamahis usually assumed to be somewhere in the region ofYemen;Shebawas a son of Raamah, and his descendants are often held to be included among theSabaeans.[citation needed]Dedan,son of Raamah. Apparently a region of theMedinaProvince of Saudi Arabia.[citation needed]

However, there was also anIsraelitecity calledRamah,somewhat closer toTyre.
