The venue opened in 1961. It also was the home ground ofIndian Super LeagueclubATKin 2016 while theSalt Lake Stadiumwas undergoing renovations for the2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.[2]
For the2016–17 I-Leagueseason it has hosted a majority of the home matches forMohun Bagan.Mohun Bagan used the venue as their home stadium for theAFC Cupmatches in2017.It also hosted some important domestic and international level matches. It also hostsRugby Unionmatches.
