Taxonomy

[edit]

Relicinawas originally conceived as aseriesof the large genusParmeliaby lichenologistsMason HaleandSyo Kurokawain 1964. A decade later, they promoted it to the status of genus.[3]

The genusRelicinopsis, proposed by Australian lichenologistsJohn Elixand Doug Verdon in 1986 as a segregate ofPseudoparmelia,[4]was shown to be nested withinRelicinain a 2017molecular phylogeneticsstudy.[5]
