Richard Ian Cox(born October 3, 1973) is aWelsh-bornCanadianactor, comedian and onlineradio host.He is best known for hisvoice workforEnglish languagedubs ofanime,mainlyforInuyasha.[1]Cox gained prominence for playing the character of Henry Dailey's (played byMickey Rooney) teenaged traveller and horse rider, Alec Ramsay, inThe Family Channel'sAdventures of the Black Stallionduring the early 1990s. Cox also gained fame for voicing Ian Kelley, the title character in the animated seriesBeing Ianand for voicing Scattershot, one of the Autobots in the CGI-Animated seriesTransformers: Cybertron.In 2015, he provided the voice of Lofty in the American dubbed version of the 2015 reboot of the British children's animated television seriesBob the Buildertaking over from both Sonya Leite,Emma Tateand Lizzie Waterworth. He had a prominent live action role alongsideRobin Williamsin the 2006 comedyRV.He maintains an active online presence on Tumblr and Twitter as well as Facebook. He hosts his own podcast calledThe Show.

Career[edit]

Born inSt. Asaph,Wales,Cox began acting at the age of 9. He moved toVancouver,British Columbia,Canada and at age 14 became a professional actor. After graduating fromVancouver'sRichmond Secondary Schoolin 1991, he appeared in a wide variety of guest-starring roles. He is most commonly known for his voice work ofBit CloudinZoids: New Century Zero,Ranma Saotome(male) in the later seasons ofRanma ½,and as the title character ofInuYasha,which are both series based on the original manga works ofRumiko Takahashi.

By the time he was 16, he won the co-starring role inBlack Stallion,oppositeMickey Rooney,where he worked for much of his youth. The two remained close friends, until Rooney's death, in April 2014. He has also voiced various characters in several other anime series, includingMobile Suit Gundam(Kai Shiden),Galaxy Angel(Normad),Megaman NT Warrior(Burner Man) andGundam SEED(Tolle KoenigandShani Andras), as well as variousAmericancartoon characters, such asQuicksilverinX-Men: Evolutionand Snails inMy Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Based inVancouver,Canada, Cox has made a few guest appearances inStargate SG-1and itsspin-offStargate Atlantis,as well as bit parts in series such asERandPsych.He has also appeared on theCanadiantelevision showThe Outer Limitsand voices Bedtime Bear inCare Bears: Adventures in Care-a-Lot.

For over a decade, Cox was a senior instructor of actors at Tarlington Training in Vancouver, and currently teaches film acting atSouth Delta Secondary School.[citation needed]
