Richard Arthur LongONZM(bornc.1940) is a New Zealand journalist, and a former editor ofThe Dominionnewspaper.

Long held senior editorial positions with theWaikato Timesand then theTaranaki Herald.In 1991, he joinedThe Dominionas their editor. After the merger ofThe DominionwithThe Evening Postin 2002, Long became the inaugural editor ofThe Dominion Post.He left the new newspaper within months[1]to become chief of staff forNew Zealand National PartyleadersBill EnglishandDon Brash.

Long worked in the parliamentary press gallery for over 20 years, which included writing a series questioning theThink Bigeconomic strategy of the government. The articles led Prime MinisterRob Muldoonto bar allDominionreporters from his press conferences.[2]

As of 2011he writes a political column "The Long View" forThe Dominion Post.

In the2011 New Year Honours,Long was appointed anOfficer of the New Zealand Order of Meritfor services to journalism.[3]
