River Allen, Cornwall

TheRiver Allen(Cornish:Dowr Lehen,meaningslate river) in north Cornwall is one of two rivers inCornwallwhich share this name. In this case the name is the result of a mistake made in 1888 by Ordnance Survey, replacing the nameLaynewithAllenwhich is the old name for the lower reaches of the Camel.[1]The otherRiver Allenruns through Truro.
The River Allen is a major tributary of theRiver Camel.It springs northeast ofCamelfordand flows south-southwest through the Allen Valley passingSt TeathandSt Kew Highwayto join the Camel nearSladesbridge.[2][3]
