Road signs inTashkent

Road signs inUzbekistanare regulated by the O'zDst 3283-2017 standard.[1]Due to the country being a formerSoviet Socialist Republicbetween 1924 and 1991, road signs are similar in design tothose used in the Soviet Unionbeforeits dissolutionin 1991, as well as in most otherpost-Soviet states.Uzbekistan acceded to theVienna Convention on Road Signs and Signalson January 17, 1995.[2][3]The Soviet Union itself was once a signatory to the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals.[4]

Modern road signs in Uzbekistan are in many ways similar in design toroad signs used in Russiaand are based on the Soviet ГОСТ 10807-78[5]standard (no longer valid inRussiasince January 1, 2006) and the Russian ГОСТ Р 52290-2004 standard.[6][7]The ГОСТ 10807-78 standard is still valid in Uzbekistan, but with additions. However, modern road signs in Uzbekistan also have some design features used on road signs in European countries such asSpain,GermanyandItaly.[8]Inscriptions on road signs in Uzbekistan are written inLatin scriptonly, despite the use ofCyrillicand Latin alphabets in the country.
