Roger Lee Hunt(born April 29, 1942)[1]is an inactivesenior United States district judgeof theUnited States District Court for the District of Nevada.

Education and career[edit]

Born inOverton,Nevada,Hunt received aBachelor of Artsdegree fromBrigham Young Universityin 1966 and aJuris Doctorfrom theGeorge Washington University Law Schoolin 1970. He was a deputydistrict attorneyat the Clark County District Attorney's Office from 1970 to 1971. He was in private practice inLas Vegas Valley,Nevada from 1971 to 1992.

Federal judicial service[edit]

Hunt serves on theUnited States District Court for the District of Nevada.Hunt was nominated by PresidentBill Clintonon March 27, 2000, to a new seat created by 113 Stat. 1501. He wasconfirmedby theUnited States Senateon May 24, 2000, and received hiscommissionthe next day. He served asChief Judgefrom 2007 to 2011. Prior to his appointment, he had been aUnited States magistrate judgeon that court from 1992 to 2000. Hunt tooksenior statuson May 26, 2011. He was succeeded byMiranda Du.

Religion[edit]

Hunt is a member ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.He has also served as astake president.
