Roissy-en-France(French pronunciation:[ʁwasiɑ̃fʁɑ̃s] ,literallyRoissy inFrance;colloquially simply calledRoissy) is acommunein the northeastern suburbs ofParis,France,in theVal-d'Oisedepartment.It is located 20.7 km (12.9 mi) from thecentre of Paris.
One-quarter ofCharles de Gaulle Airport(France's main airport) is located in the commune of Roissy-en-France (but none of its terminals), which gave its name to the airport originally. Later renamed, the airport is still commonly referred to asRoissy Airportin France. The rest of the airport lies on the territory of the commune ofTremblay-en-Franceand several other communes.
Name[edit]
In the name Roissy-en-France, 'France' refers not to the country ofFrancebut to an area (pays) of the historicalprovinceofÎle-de-France.Île-de-France was made up of severalpays,most notablyPays de FranceandHurepoix.Pays de France was the fertile plain located immediately north of the City of Paris, with the city ofSaint-Denisat its centre. Pays de France is now almost entirely built up and is covered by the northern suburbs of Paris. Pays de France is also known as "Parisis" and as theplaine de France( "plain of France" ), and its name still appears in the name of some communes in the northern suburbs of Paris, such as Roissy-en-France (which literally means "Roissy in the Pays de France" ).

Transport[edit]
Roissy-en-France is not served byParis Métro,RER,or suburban rail network. The closest station to Roissy-en-France isAéroport Charles de Gaulle 1station online Bof theRER,Paris Region's express suburban rail system. This station is located inside the airport, on the part of the airport belonging to the commune ofTremblay-en-France,3 km (1.9 mi) from the town center of Roissy-en-France.
Economy[edit]
Blue Line,a charter passenger airline, had its head office in Building B of Paris Nord 2, Parc des Lumières in Roissy-en-France.[4]
Air France's head office is located in the Roissypôle complex on the grounds of Charles de Gaulle Airport and inTremblay-en-France,[5][6][7]near Roissy-en-France.[8]

The community has two schools, école maternelle Saint-Exupéry (preschool) and école élémentaire Jean Mermoz.[9]

Roissy-en-France has anoceanic climate(Köppen climate classificationCfb). The average annual temperature in Roissy-en-France is 12.1 °C (53.8 °F). The average annual rainfall is 694.3 mm (27.33 in) with December as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in July, at around 20.1 °C (68.2 °F), and lowest in January, at around 4.7 °C (40.5 °F). The highest temperature ever recorded in Roissy-en-France was 41.4 °C (106.5 °F) on 25 July 2019; the coldest temperature ever recorded was −17.8 °C (0.0 °F) on 17 January 1985.
