Ron Fimrite(January 6, 1931 – April 30, 2010) was an American humorist, historian, sportswriter and author who was best known for his writing forSports Illustrated.[1]
Fimrite began his career at theBerkeley Gazettein 1955, moving to theSan Francisco Chronicle.He was nicknamed "The Sporting Tiger" and was part of a famous circle ofSan Francisco Chroniclecolumnists that includedHerb Caen,Art Hoppe,Stanton DelaplaneandCharles McCabe.He became a sports columnist forSports Illustratedin 1971.[1]He authored numerous books about sports.
