Ayane Mizumura(Thủy thôn lăng thái,Mizumura Ayane,born March 24, 1988),[1]better known by herring nameRyo Mizunami(Thủy ba lăng,Mizunami Ryō),is a Japaneseprofessional wrestlerandmixed martial artist.[2]She is best known for her time inPro Wrestling Wave.She is also known for her appearances in other Japanese promotions such asBig Japan Pro-Wrestling,Sendai Girls' Pro Wrestling,Ice Ribbon,Oz AcademyandSeadlinnngamongst others, as well as American promotions likeAll Elite Wrestling(AEW) andShimmer Women Athletes,andNorthern Championship Wrestlingin Canada.
Professional wrestling career
[edit]Mizumura started her professional wrestling career in 2004 withGaea Japanunder her birth name. She made her in-ring debut on November 3 in which she lost toCarlos Amano.[3]
Pro Wrestling Wave (2009–2019)
[edit]Mizunami made her debut forPro Wrestling Wavein April 2009 as part of a gauntlet battle royal for theDDTIronman Heavymetalweight Championship.[4]
All Elite Wrestling (2019, 2021–present)
[edit]In 2019, Mizunami made her debut for the newly formed American promotionAll Elite Wrestling(AEW) at their inaugural eventDouble or NothinginLas Vegasin which Mizunami,Hikaru ShidaandRihodefeated the team ofYuka Sakazaki,Aja KongandEmi Sakura.[5][6]Mizunami later revealed that she was considering retirement but changed her mind after her appearance at Double or Nothing.[7]
In 2021, Mizunami was announced as a participant in theAEW Women's Championship Eliminator Tournamentas part of the Japanese bracket.[8]In the opening round of the Japanese side of the bracket, Mizunami defeatedMaki Itohvia submission on February 15.[9]On February 22, Mizunami picked up a count-out victory overAja Kongto advance to the Japanese finals. She won the Japanese bracket after defeatingYuka Sakazakion an all-women'sB/R Livespecial on February 28.[10][11]On the March 3 edition ofAEW Dynamite,Mizunami defeatedNyla Rosein the finals, winning the AEW Women's Championship Eliminator Tournament.[12][13]For winning the tournament, Mizunami challenged Shida for theAEW Women's World Championshipon March 7 atRevolution,but was unsuccessful.[14]On the March 10th episode of Dynamite, Mizunami teamed with Shida andThunder Rosawhere they defeated Nyla Rose, Maki Itoh andDr. Britt Baker, D.M.D.[15]
