Serine/threonine-protein kinase Sgk3is anenzymethat in humans is encoded by theSGK3gene.

Function

This gene is a member of theserine/threonine protein kinasefamily and encodes aphosphoproteinwith aPX (phox homology) domain.The protein phosphorylates several target proteins and has a role in neutral amino acid transport and activation ofpotassiumandchloride channels.Alternatetranscriptional splice variants,encoding differentisoforms,have been characterized.

Inmelanocytic cellsSGK3 gene expression may be regulated byMITF.
