Construction

Saidwas built at the Cammell Laird & Co. shipyard inBirkenhead,United Kingdom in 1886. Where she was launched and completed that same year. She was assessed at 231GRT.[2]

Sinking

WhileSaidwas on her usual route fromMersintoAlexandriawith 50 to 60 tons of general cargo includingtobacco,she was spotted by the German submarineU-83at 05.11 am on 8 June 1942.U-83fired two torpedoes at her but both missed. After the failed attack,U-83surfaced and barragedSaidwith 50 rounds from the submarines deck gun.Saidsank 15 nautical miles (28 km) southwest ofJaffa,Palestinewith the loss of five of her 14 crew.[2]

The wreck ofSaidlies at a depth of 58 metres (190 ft 3 in) at (32°09′N34°26′E/ 32.150°N 34.433°E/32.150; 34.433).[1]
