Sam Black Churchis an unincorporated community inGreenbrier County,West Virginia,United States. It is located at the intersection ofInterstate 64andU.S. Route 60on theMidland Trail,aNational Scenic Byway.[1]The community is named for theSam Black Church,aRegistered Historic Placebuilt in 1902 which is nearby.Reverend Sam Blackwas aSouthern Methodistpreacher andcircuit riderwho preached an area stretching multiple counties fromKanawha CountytoGreenbrier Countyand helping to establish numerous churches in the area.[2]He died on July 13, 1899, at the age of 86.[3]
