Schiller International University(SIU) is aprivate,for-profit universitywith its main campus and administrative headquarters inTampa, Florida.It is named after the German playwright and philosopherFriedrich Schiller.[1]

It has campuses on two continents in four countries:Tampa(United States),Paris(France),Madrid(Spain),Heidelberg(Germany). Schiller offersbachelor'sandmaster's degrees.It also offers online degrees throughdistance learning.

History

Schiller was founded in 1964 by Walter Leibrecht as a study-abroad program for Americans living inWest Germany.In 1967, Schiller International University openedMadridandParisinternational campuses. Students could move around the two campuses.[1]Two years later, Schiller moved its international campus in Germany to Heidelberg and in 1983 they receivedaccreditationfrom theAccrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools.[2]In 1991, the university opened its international Campus inTampa,Florida.[1]

In 2023, Schiller International University wasaccreditedby theAccrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.[3]

Campuses

Tampa

The university's administrative headquarters and admissions office are inTampa.At one time it was located inDunedin,Florida. By 2006, the university moved to East Bay Drive and then Ulmerton Road in Largo.[4]

Paris

In 2022, the Schiller Paris campus moved from the15th arrondissement of Paris[5]to a new location near the Arc de Triomphe.[6]

Madrid

Since February 2023, the Madrid Campus is located in a historic building on Paseo de Recoletos next toPaseo del Pradoand theSpanish National Library.[7]The Madrid campus specializes in International Business and in International Relations. In addition to US accreditation, the Madrid campus is recognized by the Comunidad de Madrid, allowing students to apply for "homologación."

Heidelberg

The Heidelberg campus was the first Schiller campus and the largest. For years the campus was located in the Villa Krehl in Bergstraße, it also was located at 8 Hölderlinweg in the 1980s in the Altstadt (old city). In the summer of 2012 the campus moved to new facilities in the Bahnstadt.[8]

Accreditation

Schiller International University has beenaccreditedby theAccrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges(ACCSC) since May 2023.

As of 2015 Schiller students can gain a double degree awarded by Schiller and theUniversity of Roehamptonin the United Kingdom, thanks to a bilateral agreement between both universities.[9]This double degree is valid in the United States and in the 45 countries of theBologna Processand theCommonwealth.

Academics

Schiller International University offers competency-based courses. English is the language of instruction on all campuses. Students may relocate from campus to campus while continuing their academic program. Schiller follows the American curriculum of university education.
