Tynkkynen criticized the Finns Party leadership for its politics in theSipilä Cabinet, calling for moreeuroskepticand anti-immigration politics.[8]In October 2015 he was expelled from the party. The official reason for this was that he had published a list of names of party members who called for a new party congress.[8]His expulsion was considered illegal by some experts.[2]In January 2016 Tynkkynen was allowed to rejoin the party although he had to give up his position as the vice chairman.[9]

On 20 November 2016 Tynkkynen was succeeded bySamuli Voutilaas the chairman of the Finns Party Youth.[10]In late 2018 Tynkkynen tried to regain the Finns Party Youth chairman seat[11]but he got fewer votes than the other candidateAsseri Kinnunen.

In January 2017, Tynkkynen was fined 300 euros for posting on Facebook, "The fewer Muslims in Finland, the better. [...] The less we see of Muslims, it is safer. We have to get rid of Islam before it is too late".[12]InApril 2017Tynkkynen was elected to the City Council of Oulu with 680 votes.[13]

From Friday 14 May to Saturday 15 May 2021, Tynkkynen gave the longest ever floor speech at the Parliament of Finland in the entire history of the parliament, lasting almost eight and a half hours from 6:06 PM on Friday to 2:30 AM on Saturday. He argued against the approval of the EU's stimulus package in the speech that was seen as afilibusterto delay the parliament's vote on the matter.[15]

The Pentecostal Church does not hold this viewpoint and believes that Tynkkynen had strayed from the Pentecostal school of marriage. Tynkkynen claims that the reason for him being asked to leave the Church was that he was in a relationship with a man.[19]
