Shamama Mahmudali gizi Hasanova(Arayatlı,7 November 1923 –Baku,5 September 2008;Azerbaijani:Şamama Mahmudəli qızı Həsənova) was anAzerbaijanicotton growerand politician, twiceHero of Socialist Labor.She was chairman of the "1 May" collective farm in theFuzuli Districtof theAzerbaijan SSR.
Early life
[edit]She was born on November 7, 1923, into ashepherd's family in the village ofArayatlı,Karyaginsky Uyezd,Azerbaijan SSR(nowFuzuli Districtof Azerbaijan).
Work
[edit]Since 1942, Hasanova worked gathering cotton at the "1 May"collective farmof Karyaginsky District, where she led aKomsomolteam.[1][2]In 1947, she was awarded theHero of Socialist Labourtitle for high crop yields, becoming the first cotton grower in theSoviet Unionto receive this distinction. She was awarded the title again in 1950.[2]
In 1953 she became the chair of the 1st of May collective farm.[1][3]
In 1966 she graduated from theAzerbaijan State Agricultural University.[2]
Politics
[edit]Hasanova was a delegate to the20thand23rdCongress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.[1]She also served as a deputy of theSupreme Soviet of the Soviet Unionfrom the 4th to the 11th convocations.[2]She served as vice-chair of theSoviet of the Unionbetween 1960 and 1974.[2]She was a member of the Central Committee of theCommunist Party of Azerbaijansince 1955.[1][2]
