Shannon McIlroy(born 5 January 1987) is a New Zealand internationallawn bowler.[2]

Bowls career[edit]

World Outdoor Championships[edit]

McIlroy won abronze medalin theMen's singlesat the2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championshipin Adelaide.[3]

In 2016, he won a bronze medal withMike Kernaghanat theWorld Bowls Championshipin theMen's Pairscompetition inChristchurchbefore winning the gold medal in thesingles.[4]

In 2020 he was selected for the2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championshipin Australia.[5]

Commonwealth Games[edit]

He was selected as part of theNew Zealand teamfor the2018 Commonwealth Gameson theGold CoastinQueenslandwhere he reached the quarter-finals of themen's singles.[6]

In 2022, he competed in themen's singlesand themen's pairsat the2022 Commonwealth Games.[7]

Asia Pacific[edit]

McIlroy has won six medals at theAsia Pacific Bowls Championships,a fours silver in 2007, a second silver in the triples in 2009 and a fours gold and pairs bronze in 2015 but his greatest success to date was winning double gold at the 2019Asia Pacific Bowls Championshipsin theGold Coast, Queensland,winning the singles and the pairs withGary Lawson.[8][9]

National[edit]

He won the 2015/16 and 2017/18 singles title at theNew Zealand National Bowls Championshipswhen bowling for the Stoke Bowls Club in addition to the 2004 & 2017/18 fours titles.[10]

Personal life[edit]

OfMāoridescent, McIlroy affiliates to theNgāti Porouiwi.[11]He married fellow lawn bowls playerAmy Brentonin January 2013.[12]
