Shashthi(Sanskrit:षष्ठी,romanized:Ṣaṣṭhī) also referred to asChhathis the sixth day of the lunar fortnight in theHindu calendar.[1]It istithi(lunar day) of apaksha,the fourteen-day phase of the moon.

Etymology

The word comes from the Sanskrit cardinalṣaṣ(six), whence theordinal number (linguistics)ṣaṣṭha(sixth), fem.ṣaṣṭhī(days of the paksha are femininegender).
