She County(simplified Chinese:Thiệp huyện;traditional Chinese:Thiệp huyện;pinyin:Shè Xiàn), orShexian,is acountyof southwesternHebei Province,China,located on the lower reaches of theZhang Riverand borderingShanxito the west andHenanto the south. It is under the administration of theHandan City,with a population of 400,000[when?]residing in an area of 1,509 km2(583 sq mi).
History[edit]
The present area was originally part ofJizhou,one of theNine Provinces.During theSpring and Autumn periodit was part of thestate of Jin,and during theWarring States periodbecame part of the states ofWeiandZhaosuccessively. Later, during theQin dynasty,it was part of Handan Commandery (Hàm đan quận). In 206 BCE, it was officially established as a county, but instead named as Sha County (Sa huyện), but not long after[when?],was renamed to its present name. In the early part of theEastern Han,it was renamed State of Shehou (Thiệp hầu quốc), part of theWei Commandery(Ngụy quận). TheJin dynasty (266–420)saw the area as part of Guangping Commandery (Quảng bình quốc). The present name was restored again during theSui dynasty,becoming part ofShangdangCommandery. However, in the earlyTang,it was renamed Mo County (Mạc huyện). In theSouthern Song,it was controlled by theJin dynasty (1115–1234)and renamed Chongzhou (Sùng châu). The county's name was restored for the last time during theMing dynasty,though it was temporarily part ofHenan,and it was not until 1949, with the establishment of the People's Republic, that She County was returned to Hebei.[1]

Geography[edit]
She County is located in the east of theTaihang Mountains,borderingCi CountyandWu'anto the east,AnyangandLinzhouofHenanto the south across theZhang River,Pingshun CountyofShanxito the west, andZuoquan County(Shanxi) to the north. It ranges in latitude from 36° 17' to 36° 55' N, spanning a length of 64.5 kilometres (40.1 mi), and in longitude from 113° 26' to 114° E, a width of 37.5 km (23.3 mi), and has a total area of 1,509 km2(583 sq mi). The Zhang River, and its tributaries, is the primary river in the county, and eventually flows into theHai River.

Transport[edit]
The location of She County at the intersection of theHandan–ChangzhiandBeijing–Guangzhou Railways,and location alongG22 Qingdao–Lanzhou ExpresswayandChina National Highway 309makes it an important transport hub for Hebei province.
