Shen County(simplified Chinese:Sân huyện;traditional Chinese:Sân huyện;pinyin:Shēn Xiàn), orShenxian,is a county of westernShandongprovince, People's Republic of China, borderingHenanto the south and southwest andHebeito the west. It is the southernmostcounty-level divisionof theprefecture-level cityofLiaocheng.
The population was 949,768 in 1999.[2]
Geography and climate[edit]
Shen County ranges in latitude from 35° 46' to 36° 25' N and in longitude from 115° 20' to 115° 44' E, reaching 68 kilometres (42 mi) in north–south extent and 32 km (20 mi) in east–west width, and covers an area of 1,387.74 km2(535.81 sq mi). It bordersGuan CountyandDongchangfu Districtto the north,Yanggu Countyacross theJinxian River(Kim tuyến hà) to the east,PuyangCity ofHenanto the south, andHandanCity ofHebeito the west.
Shen County has amonsoon-influenced, continentalsemi-arid climate(KöppenBSk) with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and very dry, with a 24-hour average temperature of −1.8 °C (28.8 °F) in January, while summers are hot and humid, with a 24-hour average temperature of 26.8 °C (80.2 °F) in July; the annual mean is 13.4 °C (56.1 °F). Nearly half of the annual rainfall occurs in July and August alone.

Historical monuments[edit]
- Han Family Tombs(Hàn thị gia tộc mộ địa), a monumental complex at the graves of the localTang-erajiedushiHan Yunzhongand his relatives. The complex includes a pair of gianttortoise-bornestelae (reminiscent of those atShou Qiu) and other assorted statuary, in thespirit waytradition. It is on thenational list of major historical and cultural sites.The complex is located at36°11′11″N115°30′44″E/ 36.18639°N 115.51222°E,near Liangpiying Village (Lương phi doanh thôn) ofDongduzhuangTown (Đổng đỗ trang trấn).[6][7]
- Tomb ofMa Benzhai(1902—1944), the leader of aHuivolunteer unit that fought against the Japanese invaders in theSecond Sino-Japanese War.[7]
