TheShire of Bridgetown–Greenbushesis alocal government areain theSouth Westregion ofWestern Australia,about 80 kilometres (50 mi) southeast ofBunburyand about 260 kilometres (162 mi) south of the state capital,Perth.The Shire covers an area of 1,340 square kilometres (517 sq mi), and its seat of government is the town ofBridgetown.
History
[edit]The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes was established on 26 March 1970 with the amalgamation of theShire of Bridgetownand theShire of Greenbushes.[2]
Indigenous people
[edit]The Shire of Bridgetown–Greenbushes is located on the traditional land of theBibulman(also spelled Bibbulmun or Pibelmen)[3][4]andWardandi(also spelled Wadandi) people,[5][6]both of theNoongarnation.[7][8]
Wards
[edit]Since 2021, the shire is no longer divided into wards.[9]The nine shire councillors each represent the entire shire.
