Shirley Gnomeis a Canadian singer and comedian fromVancouver,British Columbia.[1]Best known as a singer of comedy songs about taboo topics such as sexuality,[2]she received aJuno Awardnomination forComedy Album of the Yearat theJuno Awards of 2021for her 2020 albumDecoxification.[3]

Gnome grew up inSurrey,British Columbia, a place she describes as “a big place with a lot of contradictions. From the south you could smell the salty sea air. From the north you could hear gunshots and sirens".[2]

Her other albums have includedHo Down(2010),[1]C*untry Music(2012),[1]The Lady of the Night(2015)[4]andTaking It Up the Notch(2017).[5]Her first three releases were independent before signing with theVancouverbased label604 Records.[6]Her style has evolved fromcountry musictoward a diverse blend of country, rock and electronic pop.[7]

She describes her music as “little lullabies about things we think about, but don’t talk about. With the intent to reveal that at the end of the day, it’s not really a big deal”.[8]

She is also a four-timeCanadian Comedy Awardnominee for Best Variety Act, receiving nods at the15th Canadian Comedy Awardsin 2014, the16th Canadian Comedy Awardsin 2015, the18th Canadian Comedy Awardsin 2018 and the19th Canadian Comedy Awardsin 2019. In 2018, she also received a nomination for Best Comedy Album, forTaking It Up the Notch.
