Biography

Early life

Rozovsky was born inGrodno,where his father Michel Dovid Rozovsky was the chief rabbi. His mother Sara Pearl was the daughter of Avraham Gelburd, the previous rabbi of Grodno.

He studied at the localSha’ar Hatorah Yeshivaand was student ofShimon Shkop.He also studied withYisroel Zev Gustman.

In 1935, after the death of his father, to escape being drafted into the SovietRed ArmyRozovsky fled to British-ruledPalestine,where he studied in theLomzha YeshivahinPetach Tikvah,married the daughter ofTzvi Pesach Frank(Chief Rabbi ofJerusalem) and taught in the Lomzha Yeshiva.

Ponevezh Yeshiva

In 1944, he becameRosh Yeshivaof the newly opened Ponovezh Yeshivah inBnei Barak. Rozovsky placed a strong emphasis onTalmudic skills,and also stressed personal perfectionandMussar,as well as the need to study other facets ofTorahincludingChumashwith the commentaries ofRashiandNachmanides.
