TheSichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries(simplified Chinese:Tứ xuyên đại hùng miêu tê tức địa;traditional Chinese:Tứ xuyên đại hùng miêu tê tức địa;pinyin:Sìchuān Dàxióngmāo Qīxīdì) located in southwestSichuanprovince ofChina,is the home to more than 30% of the world'sgiant pandasand is among the most important sites for the captive breeding of these pandas. It covers 9245 km2with seven nature reserves and nine scenic parks in theQionglaiand Jiajin Mountains. Along with the giant panda, the sanctuary is a refuge to other endangered species such as thered panda,thesnow leopard,and theclouded leopard.Outside of the tropicalrainforests,it is among the botanically richest sites of the world, and is home to between 5,000 and 6,000 species of flora. It has been noted that the region is similar to the paleo-tropic forests of thePaleogeneandNeogenePeriods. Because of its biodiversity and conservation of giant pandas, these sanctuaries were listed asUNESCOWorld Heritage Sitesin 2006.[1]

The Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries consist of seven nature reserves and nine scenic parks.[1]

  • Seven Nature Reserves
    • Wolong Nature Reserve(Chinese:Ngọa long tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve (Chinese:Phong dũng trại tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Mount SiguniangNature Reserve (Chinese:Tứ cô nương sơn tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Laba River Nature Reserve (Chinese:Lạt bá hà tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Anzihe Nature Reserve (Chinese:An tử hà tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Heishui River Nature Reserve (Chinese:Hắc thủy hà tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Jintang-Kongyu Nature Reserve (Chinese:Kim thang — khổng ngọc tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
    • Caopo Nature Reserve (Chinese:Thảo pha tự nhiên bảo hộ khu)
  • Nine Scenic Parks
