The rank ofSirdar(Arabic:سردار) – a variant ofSardar– was assigned to theBritishCommander-in-Chief of theBritish-controlledEgyptian Armyin the late 19th and early 20th centuries.[1]The Sirdar resided at the Sirdaria, a three-block-long property inZamalekwhich was also the home of British military intelligence inEgypt.[2]
